How Weekly Pay Is Calculated

Your gross weekly pay is the total amount you earn in one week before taxes or deductions. The formula depends on how you are paid:

  • Hourly workers: Hourly Rate × Hours Worked Per Week
  • Salaried workers: Annual Salary ÷ 52 weeks
  • Daily rate workers: Daily Rate × Days Worked Per Week
  • Monthly paid workers: Monthly Salary × 12 ÷ 52

Example: $20/hr × 40 hrs = $800 gross weekly pay. A $52,000 salary ÷ 52 = $1,000 per week. If your employer pays every two weeks instead, use our biweekly pay calculator to see your per-paycheck amount. To find out what you actually take home after taxes and deductions, our net pay calculator shows your real earnings once everything is subtracted.

Full-Time vs Part-Time Weekly Pay

Both full-time and part-time workers receive weekly pay based on actual hours worked and their hourly rate. Key differences:

  • Full-time workers typically work 35–40 hours per week and may receive benefits like paid vacation, health insurance, and retirement contributions.
  • Part-time workers are paid for fewer hours and may have a different benefits package.
  • Some employers define full-time at 32 hours per week — always confirm your contract.
  • If you work more than your scheduled hours, you may be entitled to overtime pay.

Gross Pay vs Net (Take-Home) Pay

Gross weekly pay is your total earnings before any deductions are removed. Net pay — or take-home pay — is what actually arrives in your bank account each payday.

Common deductions that reduce gross to net include:

  • Income tax (rate depends on your country and tax band)
  • National insurance or social security contributions
  • Health or medical insurance premiums
  • Pension or retirement contributions

Use the Advanced Options above to add a tax rate and see your estimated take-home pay alongside gross earnings.
